* General health insurance is not mandatory for foreign students. Health expenses of students who are not considered to have universal health insurance must be covered by themselves.
* Foreign students who come to Turkey for educational purposes and cannot receive health care from their parents in Turkey can become universal health insurance holders within 3 months from the date of first registration to the school, if they request.
* Foreign students who want to be universal health insurance holders can apply to the Social Security Institution (SGK) even if they do not have a foreign identification number.
* Foreign students who are considered to have universal health insurance can benefit from health services for a year if they pay the full one-year amount of the premium determined for 2021 in advance.
* It is not possible for foreign students who have general health insurance to withdraw from general health insurance by request before the end of their education period.
* Students who are considered to have universal health insurance within the scope of foreign students will only benefit from health services themselves, it is not possible for their spouses or children to benefit from these services.
* Foreign students who miss the first three months from the date of first registration to the school or who want to make their spouses/children universal health insurance through themselves can request to become universal health insurance by applying to the SSI Centers in the Provinces or Districts if they complete the one-year residence period in Turkey. In this context, people who are considered to have universal health insurance must pay the monthly premiums determined for 2021. In this context, general health insurance of those who request will continue as long as they stay in Turkey, and their general health insurance cannot be terminated unless they have other insurance.
GUIDE ON OUR STUDENTS' RIGHT TO GENERAL HEALTH INSURANCE AND COVERING THEIR TREATMENT EXPENSES
Since all provisions of the Social Security and General Health Insurance Law No. 5510 will be implemented on 01.01.2012, people whose residence is in Turkey are included in the scope of General Health Insurance under the conditions specified in Article 60 of the same law.
In this regard, there is a need to make the following explanations about the General Health Insurance of our University students.
1) Students who earn income by working and have social security in their name;
Since our students in this status have gained General Health Insurance in return for their work (students who work as part-time students at our university and fulfill their internship duties are not evaluated within this scope), they do not need to take any extra action. If social security activations have not been made, the activation process must be carried out by applying to the affiliated Social Security Center.
2) Not working in any job;
If, as a result of income determination, an income of less than one-third of the minimum wage per family member is determined, our students are covered by General Health Insurance, with their expenses covered by the Social Security Institution. If, as a result of the determination, an income of more than one-third of the minimum wage is determined, our students are included in the scope of General Health Insurance by the Social Security Institution, stating the monthly amounts they will pay (this amount varies depending on the income level). Our students must complete their applications within 1 month from 01.01.2012. Otherwise, they will be considered within the highest income group and will have to pay high premium rates. Our students can access the contact information of the Social Assistance and Solidarity Foundations in our country via the website www.sydgm.gov.tr/tr/vakif.
3) Students who have a Green Card;
Students who have been issued a Green Card by the Social Security Institution must apply to the Social Assistance and Solidarity Foundations and have their income determined within 1 month after the visa expiration date of their cards. Otherwise, they will be considered within the highest income group and will have to pay high premium rates.
4) Students working part-time and doing internships;
Students who work part-time at our university and students who do internships according to their course curriculum are asked to obtain a certificate of eligibility from the Social Security Institution before entering the Social Security Institution. Our university pays work accident and occupational disease premiums for students who are dependent on their families. In addition to work accident and occupational disease premiums, general health insurance premiums are also paid by our university to our students who are not responsible for dependents. When the General Health Insurance premiums of our students within this scope exceed 30 working days, our students can benefit from health benefits themselves.
